Use Case — Energy & Utilities
Field sensor management for distributed energy assets
Grid substations, solar generation sites, wind farms — your sensors are in the field and hard to reach. Iotpathway gives you remote visibility and firmware control without dispatching a truck.
Remote assets, no local IT
Energy and utility sensor deployments are different from factory floors. The devices are in the field — substations, solar arrays, transmission line infrastructure — many of them connecting over NB-IoT or LTE-M backhaul with constrained bandwidth. Getting a technician to a site to update firmware or diagnose a sensor health issue can mean a half-day round trip. So most teams tolerate outdated firmware and delayed diagnostics because the alternative is expensive.
Iotpathway's remote OTA uses delta patch delivery — transmitting only the diff between firmware versions, not the full image. On a 250bps NB-IoT connection, a 60KB delta patch is the difference between a 20-minute push and a 2-hour transfer per device. Battery health alerts surface before a site visit is needed, and firmware updates deploy on a schedule aligned with your maintenance windows — not whenever someone remembers.
Battery health tracking for field sensors
Field-deployed sensors run on battery or solar supplementation. Iotpathway tracks discharge rates, flags sensors approaching end-of-life, and prioritizes maintenance runs.
Signal quality in challenging environments
Transmission infrastructure environments are hard on radio signal. Heatmap monitoring shows which sensors have degraded signal before they drop off entirely.
Scheduled OTA for maintenance windows
Energy infrastructure has defined maintenance windows. Schedule firmware updates to deploy during those windows automatically — no manual trigger required at the site.
Energy customer profile
- 20–500 field sensor nodes per installation
- Multiple remote sites, minimal local staff
- Battery-powered or solar-supplemented sensors
- Regulatory and maintenance documentation requirements
Our substations are 40 miles apart. Before Iotpathway, every firmware update meant scheduling a service truck. Now I push updates from the office during the weekly maintenance window.
